About the event

The implications of mechanical dead space and resistance become important with both very small animals and very large animals. The diversity of species dealt with by the veterinary services at zoological institutions require the use of a wide range and anaesthetic equipment with unique challenges. The commonly available equipment is generally sourced from human anaesthesia and works well in species between 5-100kg but does not necessarily adapt well further away from this range. Specialised lab animal apparatus and equine focussed equipment go some way to filling the “gap” but it is useful to consider how the concepts of anatomical dead space as resistance influence the choice and use of breathing systems in anaesthesia.

Note: This webinar will be recorded and made available to registrants after the event.

The Australian Veterinary Nurse and Technician (AVNAT) Regulatory Council will allocate (1) AVNAT CPD points/s to this continuing education activity.
